Comcast and the Big Ten Network have had a very public battle for over a year. That battle ended Thursday as the largest Cable Company in the US and The Big Ten Network came together for an new agreement. The BTN will be included in Comcast's expanded basic tier cable package. In Spring 2009, Comcast may elect to move the network to a broadly distributed digital level of service in most of its systems.
What a huge win for the Big Ten Network and a successful compromise by both sides. These states will see the BTN starting on 8/15: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. The biggest cable company now to not have The Big Ten Network is also the one with the largest footprint in Ohio: Time Warner Cable. I'm pretty sure Columbus and the rest of the Ohio Buckeye Nation will not stand for TWC not having the BTN much longer.
Here's to Big Ten Football for the masses!
Now word on The NFL Network.
