Post Game Comments:
Alabama coach Nick Saban, in defending quarterback John Parker Wilson, laid plenty of blame on the Crimson Tide's offensive line. After all, Alabama gained just 89 yards rushing on 27 attempts, an average of 3.3 yards per carry. Wilson was sacked three times and punished much more than that.
"I don't think it's fair to sit here and lay it on the quarterback," Saban said. "I'm not sure that was the issue. If you can't run the football and get them blocked, that's not the quarterback's fault. When you can't pass-protect well enough to get the ball off, that's not the quarterback's fault."
Alabama center Antoine Caldwell said, "I don't think our running game is struggling at all." Bet on Saban to win the debate!
Saban said he never considered replacing Wilson with backup Greg McElroy. "I didn't think that was the issue," Saban said.
What was? Saban pointed at intensity, or specifically the Tide's lack of it on offense.

Florida State 21, Alabama 14
John Parker Wilson passed for 240 yards and two touchdowns, setting career highs with 28 completions and 53 attempts in the University of Alabama’s 21-14 loss to Florida State.
Those numbers didn’t reflect the truth of the Crimson Tide’s offensive performance in the eyes of head coach Nick Saban.
Almost half of Wilson’s passing totals — 119 yards — came in the game’s final 8:57, when he went 12 for 23 over three possessions while trying the rally Alabama, and all of it came with the Tide behind by two touchdowns and trying desperately to get back into the game.
The inability to move the football combined with three Florida State touchdown drives in the second half resulted in the Seminoles 21-14 win against Alabama.
Two FSU scores resulted almost entirely from single, catastrophic Alabama errors. A John Parker Wilson fumble inside the 10 set up a short Antone Smith scoring run. A missed tackle by Marquise Johnson allowed FSU’s De’Cody Fagg to race 70 yards for a score.
The drive that stung the most, though, opened the second half. On that march, FSU took a lead that it never relinquished and set the tempo for the remainder of the game, covering 67 yards in eight plays that boosted the confidence of reserve quarterback Xavier Lee immeasurably.
In a nutshell, the problem was quickly identified by Wallace Gilberry - “Intensity level,” Gilberry said after the game. “Our intensity level was down".

Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Florida State Seminoles
Follow the game online CLICK HERE!
Florida State had a bye last week after upending Colorado 16-6 as a 4-point road favorite back on Sept. 15. All three of the Seminoles' games this season have been decided by 10 points or less.
The Crimson Tide's offense is humming under Saban, putting up 35 points and 436 yards per game, including averaging more than 200 yards on the ground and through the air. Meanwhile, Florida State is netting only 22.7 points and 323 yards per contest. However, the Seminoles rate a huge edge in rushing defense, holding foes to 74.7 ypg on the ground, while Alabama surrenders 145.5 ypg.
Despite covering against the Buffaloes, the Seminoles are just 7-14 ATS in their last 21 games when laying points.
Alabama is just 2-4-1 ATS in its last seven lined games dating back to November. However, the Tide are 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven on the highway.
The over is 10-4 in Alabama's last 14 contests (2-0 last two).
The under is on a 7-1 run when Florida State hooks up with an SEC foe.
ATS ADVANTAGE: NONE

Story Lines to Watch over the Weekend
Alabama at Florida State (off); 5:00; CBS: Nick Saban vs. Bobby Bowden should be worth the price of admission right there. But the biggest showdown will be FSU running back Antone Smith against Alabama's heavy-blitzing defense. (Normally it should be how a QB handles the blitz, but the Seminoles' signal caller Drew Weatherford has had a knack for disappearing in big games.) I like Smith to find seams the same way did Georgia's two-back system did last week -- FSU, 24-20.

'Bama & FSU Match Up!
Alabama's front has clearly made major strides since 2006 in both run blocking and pass blocking. As long as Terry Grant's rushing average hovers in the six-plus range, this line's play can't be described as anything less than excellent. Center Antoine Caldwell and left tackle Andre Smith give UA a dominant presence both inside and outside. All five starters have remained healthy this season, a critical factor as depth is a concern.
OL
This unit is where the Seminoles have struggled most, and takes a large share in the blame for a lack of production from some of FSU's very talented skill players on offense. The line is led by pre-season All-ACC pick Jacky Claude at left guard. Around Claude, however, FSU employs a true freshman at right guard, a first-year starter at left tackle, and a converted defensive lineman at center. Guard Shannon Boatman has extensive experience, but experience meant little in a re-tooling job by new OL coach Rick Trickett.

FSU-Alabama Game Carries Tremendous Importance to both 'Bama & FSU
Make no mistake, the FSU-Alabama game still carries tremendous importance to the two participants. It's chock full of interesting subplots, most notably the fact that Bowden, 77, an Alabama native and longtime admirer of the late Bear Bryant, has never faced his home state's flagship team. "It's [going to be] a bowl-type atmosphere," said Bowden. "It will be exciting for me."
Most of all, Saturday's game will be viewed as a measuring stick for two rebuilding programs.
The Crimson Tide's ballyhooed new $4 million head coach, Nick Saban, has already made his presence felt. A year after going just 2-6 in its conference, 'Bama has already knocked off one ranked SEC foe (Arkansas) while taking another (Georgia) to overtime last week. A victory over the 'Noles in a high-profile intersectional matchup would be yet another building block for Saban.
For the 'Noles, however, any tangible effects from the most radical staff overhaul of Bowden's career -- one in which he replaced his entire offensive staff and brought back deposed N.C. State head coach and longtime FSU assistant Chuck Amato as linebackers coach -- have yet to be seen on the field.
In other words, the statue has been damaged, but it's not unrepairable. Will we see the fruits of FSU's reconstruction effort begin to show this weekend -- or do we need to push back its estimated completion date?

Nittany Lion Nation On The Brink
After the disappointing loss to the Wolverines, can the Nittany Lions bounce back? In 2005, they did just that, and went on to finish 11-1 and ranked #3 in the nation. Now, we'll see what this 2007 version of the Lions is made of. Any way you cut it though, that's now 9 losses in a row to the Wolverines. Ouch!
'Bama Nose Tackle Brian Motley practiced Tuesday
Alabama nose tackle Brian Motley practiced Tuesday, a sign he could be available for Saturday's 4 p.m. game against Florida State.
Motley worked in contact drills with the rest of the defensive linemen, showing no ill effects from the broken left ankle that caused him to miss Alabama's first four games. He was without a black, no-contact jersey for the first time since suffering the injury four days before the season opener against Western Carolina.
Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said last week that Motley would probably return to practice, but wouldn't be ready for "football-type work" until after this weekend's game against the Seminoles.

'Bama's 2 Min Drill is Still Impressive!
Last week against Arkansas, the Tide drove 73 yards on nine plays in 2:05 to score the winning touchdown with eight seconds remaining. This time it was 10 plays, 88 yards in 3:35, but Alabama left the door open for Georgia to attempt a game-winning field goal. The surprising statistic from the drive was that Wilson only completed two passes, the 43-yard bomb to Brown, and an 8-yard completion, also to Brown.
Grant, Coffee and sophomore Roy Upchurch all had carries during the possession, with Upchurch, who was on the field in obvious passing situations, taking two handoffs for 19 yards. Alabama also had a 2-minute drive at the end of the first half, traveling 46 yards on seven plays for a field goal. Those two possessions accounted for 39 percent of Alabama’s total offense (349 yards).

Alabama vs Florida State from Jacksonville, 5:00PM (EST) on CBS.
"You have to be raised in Alabama to understand the feeling for Alabama and Auburn," Bowden said. "As a kid growing up all of my contacts, my father's contacts, were with Alabama people. Football seemed like it was always a part of my life."
Still is, of course, for the 77-year-old Hall of Famer in his 42nd season as a head coach, all but 10 at Florida State. Bowden has two national championships, several league titles, is the winningest coach in major college history and was part of the first father vs. son coaching matchup.
Yet, of the 96 teams Bowden has faced, never has he looked across the field and seen the Crimson uniforms of Alabama or looked in the stands and heard "Roll Tide." That opportunity, though, comes Saturday when, in his 487th game, Bowden's Seminoles meet Alabama in Jacksonville.

Some Positives from the Georgia Game
WR Keith Brown — Apparently Brown is out of the doghouse. After missing the opener due to a suspension and playing a limited role in the two previous games, Brown caught three passes for 73 yards, including a 43-yard reception on Alabama's fourth-quarter game-tying drive.
RB Terry Grant — Alabama had a difficult time making plays on offense but Grant did give the Tide an occasional burst with 80 yards on just 11 carries.
RB Glenn Coffee — Despite the fact that Grant entered the game leading the SEC in rushing, Coffee got many of the tough carries, rushing 16 times for 62 yards.

Saban’s Postgame Message - Georgia Game
"Obviously, we’re very disappointed, but there [are] a lot of lessons to be learned,” Saban said. “I was concerned about our intensity in preparing for this game. I thought that showed up in the first half, and not just in our inability to score. The look in our eye just wasn’t what it needs to be.
“I’m responsible for that. I’m not blaming anybody. My job is to get the team ready and will get that corrected in the future.
“I was very proud of way we played in the second half. We came back and had a chance to win the game. The competitive spirit was there.
“The biggest difference in the game [was] their ability to make third downs. They were 9 of 19. We were only 3 of 15. We had too many drives where didn’t keep the ball for eight or nine plays and turn the field position around like they did.
“But we had opportunities. We need to cash in on more of those opportunities in the passing game. We’ve got too many good skill guys not to have a good passing game. Special teams wasn’t a factor for us. They did a better job in terms of field position than we did.
“So there are a lot of lessons to be learned here. We are always talking about improving and understanding [that] you’ve got to focus on the process and you’ve got to do it with consistency. You’ve got to do it every week.”

'Bama vs 'Dawgs, Which Teams will Show Up
In talking with other UGA fans this week about Saturday’s game against the Crimson Tide, the one constant has been that none of them had a sure feel for how the game will go.
All of their assessments were preceded by a lot of ifs. If Georgia can run against Alabama like Arkansas did … (of course, we don’t have the Razorbacks’ offensive line, not to mention Darren McFadden). Or if Georgia can get its long passing game going against Nick Saban’s man coverage (and IF our receivers hold on to the ball). And so on.
But the basic comment most Dawg fans have made is that it depends on WHICH Georgia team shows up … the one that plays up to its capabilities or the one we saw in the South Carolina game and the first quarter against Western Carolina.
Interestingly, I’ve found the same lack of certainty among Bama fans. They feel good about the game if the team that got off to a fast start against Arkansas shows up. But if Bama plays like it did in the second half against the Razorbacks …

Game Day Chooses Tuscaloosa for the 5th Time!

Those preparing for Saturday’s match-up said they had no fear of what some consider the GameDay Jinx. For them, head coach Nick Saban is a jinx buster.
Alabama has a reputation for doing exactly the opposite of what Corso predicts for that week’s game. For the 1993 Sugar Bowl, for example, Corso said the Miami Hurricanes would have a walk-off win over the Tide — a point many Alabama fans have never forgotten in the wake of Alabama’s 34-13 win, which secured the school’s 12th national title.

Could an Auburn Graduate be Responsible for the Closed Georgia Practice?
According to an Atlanta-Journal Constitution writer who appeared on the Paul Finebaum Radio Network, Stacy Searels, a former Auburn graduate and former LSU assistant might have been behind Mark Richt’s move.
The AJC.com writer, said he couldn’t confirm that and wouldn’t with anonymous sources, but it was a fascinating bit of gossip he passed along. Imagine, an Auburn graduate’s fingerprints on a move to embarrass Nick Saban and Alabama.

So, who's barred from practice this week?
"Any face," Richt said, "that we don't really recognize."

'Bama Enters the Top 25 as #16
The biggest moment to date for the Nick Saban era earned a debut at No. 16 in this week's Associated Press poll. It's the highest Alabama (3-0, 2-0 SEC) has been since the end of the 2005 season. The Tide is ranked 20th in the USA Today coaches poll.

Unwilling to be Satisfied
Celebration was not on Saban's mind after receiver Matt Caddell cradled a 4-yard pass from quarterback John Parker Wilson to clinch the victory with eight seconds left.
"We won the game, all right, but we didn't psychologically go toe-to-toe and beat them physically," Saban said. "We'd like to be a team that people don't want to play because of how we physically play the game."
That's the mindset for Alabama, which hosts No. 22 Georgia Saturday at 5:45 p.m. (ESPN) in a game that figures just as challenging.
Saban is a coach unwilling to be satisfied, even with a thrilling win. He spoke, in a way, like the coach of the losing team that had suffered through missed opportunities and stumbles and bumbles.
