SEC teams have the best in the nation on the line, backing up the line and in the secondary. That is according to the new Lindy's College Football Annual that hits the newsstands all across the South this week and the country next week.
The magazine rates the defensive units of teams all across the college football landscape, and a Southeastern Conference team is ranked No. 1 among defensive lines (Florida), the linebackers (Alabama) and the secondary (Florida). That's three for three, a perfect score. There are no more defensive positions.
- Alabama has the top-rated linebacker group.
- Alabama was listed as fourth in the defensive line.
- Alabama was listed as fourth in the secondary.
Alabama linebackers Rolando McClain and Dont'a Hightower are as good as they come, which is why the Tide is ranked No. 1 at the position. They both stand 6-4 and tip the scales at 250 pounds. McClain is junior and Hightower is just a sophomore. It's scary to think they could be together again in 2010, but chances are the NFL draft will short-circuit that plan.
SEC defenses dominate preseason ranking
So who has the best Defense in the SEC? According to this story it appears to be the Gators holding 2 of the 3 top rankings. Time will tell.
