Backup QB Nick Fanuzzi Leaves 'Bama

Backup quarterback Nick Fanuzzi decided on Monday to leave the University of Alabama football program, the 14th Crimson Tide player to either leave the team or be dismissed from the squad since the start of the 2007 season.

Fanuzzi, a second-year player from San Antonio, Texas, had dropped on the depth chart behind true freshman Star Jackson and walk-on redshirt freshman Thomas Darrah, prompting a discussion with head coach Nick Saban.

"Nick Fanuzzi has been talking to us for several days and he has decided to transfer," Saban said. "Nick is a fine young man. He did an outstanding job here for us. We certainly hate to see him leave the program because every characteristic, every value that we try to instill in the program, he certainly represents.
