'Bama vs Houston Just Enough to Escape with a "W"

After stunning the Houston Cougars for three touchdowns in the first quarter, the Alabama offense wilted in the following three quarters and had to watch its defense preserve the 30-24 homecoming victory Saturday afternoon.

Even with a career performance from running back Glen Coffee, the Crimson Tide offense sputtered when the defense needed late support.

After building a 30-10 lead by the end of the third quarter, Alabama’s offensive woes fueled the Cougars’ comeback as they struck for two touchdowns and pulled within 30-24.

Wilson’s interception occurred in the final three minutes of the game and almost proved fatal, as Houston drove to the Alabama 15-yard line following the turnover. Only an interception by the Crimson Tide’s Simeon Castille on the game’s final play averted disaster.
